Sheffield Wednesday star reveals his “clear” new position Under Danny Rohl

Sheffield Wednesday midfielder George Byers has explained his new role given to him by manager Danny Rohl.

Under the German’s direction, Byers’ play has been improving lately; his performance on Saturday was called “silky” and “incisive.”

The former Scotland under-17 international has expressed his dissatisfaction with his early-season performance in recent remarks.

Byers clarified to the Sheffield Star that under Rohl, his position is little more defensive.

Right now, he believes that I can manage games a little bit deeper and allow the offensive players to advance, so he wants me to play at number six. I’ve played this part previously, and he wants me to do it now. Simply said, I really like the way he views football, the game, and how he wants to play. I want to grow better at it with his help since I’m loving it.

In that capacity, you’re getting sunk in and attempting to break down the game by getting interceptions and initiating assaults,” Byers went on. Getting the ball and getting it to the players who can make it happen has been my job. I’ve been expected to put more effort forward in past positions, but in this one, if you like, I’m sitting a little more, which allows others to attack and build things.

Rohl is obviously doing something well.
Byers’ performances appear to be getting better, so obviously Rohl is doing something right.

Thus far, Rohl has typically started with Byers and Barry Bannan in a two-man midfield.

Byers’ more defensive and supporting position frees up fellow Scot Bannan to showcase his attacking abilities, which is his strongest suit, going ahead.
