Wednesday reunion with 30-year-old free agent striker made a lot of sens’

Sheffield Wednesday should consider re-signing free agent Lucas Joao to solve their striker problems, having missed out on Duncan McGuire

After defeating Barnsley in the play-off final at Wembley in May of last year, Wednesday was promoted from League One, and it appeared as though they may drop back to the third division right away.

After the Owls had the worst start to a season in club history, Danny Rohl took over as manager in October. Although his team’s play and results improved at first under the German, they have deteriorated once more in recent weeks.

Wednesday’s emphatic 4-0 loss to Yorkshire and relegation rivals Huddersfield Town at the John Smith’s Stadium on Saturday leaves them winless in their last five games across all competitions.

The Owls’ chances of surviving were severely damaged by the defeat, and Rohl’s team is currently eight points out of safety.

Sheffield Wednesday’s frustrating January transfer window

In the January transfer window, Hillsborough added four players: striker Ike Ugbo, winger Ian Poveda, goalkeeper James Beadle, and defender Kristian Pedersen. All four players joined on loan. However, Rohl will be extremely disappointed that he was unable to get a consistent number nine.

Wednesday made several attempts to get Orlando City striker Duncan McGuire, but Blackburn Rovers ultimately prevailed in signing him.

Due to a mistake made by Rovers when registering McGuire, the deal to Ewood Park is reportedly about to fall through, but this will only make the Owls more irate at missing out on their primary offensive target.

Wednesday is reportedly among the teams interested in signing striker Dwight Gayle after Stoke City released him, according to journalist Fabrizio Romano. Rohl acknowledged that he might try to sign a free agent.

According to Rohl, “I think we have to keep our eyes open in this situation,” The Star revealed.

“The questions are if this is a good idea, feasible, and an opportunity. Naturally, we’ll have a look in the coming days.

“Perhaps there’s someone who could be intriguing or thrilling for us, and then it’s the same game; see if he’s free, whether he wishes to attend, and whether we can reach a consensus. We’ll see what we can accomplish if we open our eyes.

“What matters more to me is that everyone understands they are a member of my group, that we are all in the same group, and that we are moving in the same direction.

“I want to instill trust in my guys and give them the energy to stick together. They deserve praise since they shown their abilities in our league and under our circumstances, performing admirably. I have faith in them.

In light of this, the Owls ought to think about pursuing former striker Lucas Joao, who is free agent following his release from Chinese team Shanghai Port.
