A third West Ham player could be on their way to Southampton after a new Ben Johnson claim emerged ahead of the transfer window.
It seems the lines of communication between West Ham and Southampton remain very much open.
Flynn Downes, a midfielder, was sent on a season-long loan by the Hammers to the Saints, who had been demoted.
Also, West Ham sent Southampton £30 million in exchange for James Ward-Prowse.
Yesterday, flop striker Danny Ings was rumoured to be returning to St Mary’s during the January transfer window by Claret and Hugh, who have connections inside the West Ham boardroom.
There may be a third West Ham player travelling to Southampton.
And according to a fresh Ben Johnson claim, a third West Ham player might be headed to Southampton.
The top source inside West Ham confirmed to Hammers News that the team needs to sell players to make room in the squad and raise money so they can make signings when the window opens in just over two weeks.
To do that, many West Ham supporters believe they need to let go of Ings and contract rebel Johnson.
It appears Southampton might be able to assist the Hammers in that area.
‘Remain keen’
That’s according to Mirror journalist Darren Witcoop.
According to the reporter, the Saints intend to sign “versatile” Johnson in January to take Mason Holgate’s place after the Everton loan is terminated.
Witcoop stated on X that “Southampton remains keen on West Ham defender Ben Johnson.”
Johnson might be on the move next month as the Saints are prepared to end Mason Holgate’s loan.
Johnson was under the Saints’ notice in the summer because of his versatility across the back line.
It’s possible that Southampton and West Ham conducted additional business in January.
Because according to talkSPORT reporter Alex Crook, the Hammers sign the Saints for a knockdown fee, which makes them an extremely smart signing.
Crook’s assertion is given additional credence because of his extensive connections at the South Coast Club.
