Manager Russell Martin has confirmed that SAINTS strikerr Ross Stewat has experienced a setback in his recuperation from an injury.
After being out for more than ten months, the 27-year-old has made two substitute appearances against West Bromwich Albion and Huddersfield Town.
Stewart, who signed on deadline day from Championship rivals Sunderland, was not included in the team for Wednesday’s 1-0 victory over Bristol City.
As far as the Daily Echo is aware, Stewart was absent from practise on Tuesday. Martin provided an update regarding the Scot at St Mary’s.
“Ross couldn’t be in the squad,” he stated. He has experienced a setback in his healing from his injury, which is common after recovering from a chronic injury.
“He can’t be in the squad today and won’t be in the squad on Saturday, but we’re still evaluating him.
“Hopefully, we will have an update on Friday with a bit more of a clear answer on Ross and where his situation is – he has been scanned.”
Martin clarified, saying, “It’s a muscle injury; his Achilles injury is fine. At the conclusion of Saturday’s game, he landed in an extremely uncomfortable position.
“He managed to finish the game which gives us a chink of light but we have to be really careful with him and get the experts to have a look at it.”
