Southampton agree To Sign £29k-Per Week 14-Goal Attacker In January

Promotion hopefuls Southampton are keen to add to their squad in January and could make a very ambitious approach from one of the Championship’s top talents from the previous campaign.

After a successful season with Sunderland last year, Manchester United winger Amad Diallo is reportedly being pursued by the Saints on a loan basis. Additionally, the publication says Southampton has long been a fan of the Ivory Coast international.

Diallo, who is currently paid £29k per week by the English powerhouses, may be a costly loan addition for the south coast club.

The young player, who had been sent out on loan to the Black Cats during the previous season, ended up being the team’s top goalscorer. Under head coach Tony Mowbray, he scored 14 goals in 42 games, helping Sunderland advance to the playoff semifinals.

Before making his way back to Old Trafford, his outstanding performances on Wearside earned him the titles of Championship Fans’ Player of the Year and Sunderland’s Young Player of the Year for the 2022–2023 campaign.

Nevertheless, Diallo suffered a serious knee injury during the Red Devils’ preseason and has not been able to play since. Nevertheless, the Ivorian has since resumed training and may be added to United’s roster in the upcoming weeks.

As previously reported, Diallo was eager to return to the Stadium of Light for Sunderland in January. However, in November, sources told The Real EFL that Diallo was more interested in staying at the Theatre of Dreams to compete for a spot in Erik ten Hag’s starting lineup.

In any case, the club may decide for him if they believe the winger needs to go on loan again in order to improve.

Author’s Perspective

A move to the St. Mary’s Stadium seems unlikely given Manchester United’s offensive woes, as Diallo has a great chance of breaking into the first team in the upcoming months.

That being said, considering his Championship-proven quality, Southampton would be well-served by acquiring the 21-year-old when the winter transfer window opens in less than two weeks.
