SAINTS CEO Phil Parsons has insisted the board will not “gamble the future of the club” in a new message ahead of the transfer window opening.
The January trading window opens on the first of the month with Championship clubs able to sign players until 11PM on February 1.
Saints made eight signings during the summer window, including the deadline-day acquisition of Sunderland striker Ross Stewart.
The Scottish international is ruled out for the rest of the season with a hamstring injury and could prompt the club to reenter the market.
Parsons, the club’s new CEO who took over at the start of the summer, affirms the potentially unstable financial situation of the organisation.
“We’ve taken massive strides both on and off the pitch, despite a number of challenges over the last 12 months,” he told club media.
Supporters, teammates, and players have all demonstrated tenacity and dedication in their efforts to get the team back to the Premier League.
We’ve experienced successes and setbacks as a team, and your encouragement has always given us courage and motivation.
“Jason Wilcox, myself, Russell Martin, and our owners Sport Republic will all be working to maintain the team’s stability in the coming year to keep the momentum moving in the right direction.
“Given the limitations of Financial Fair Play, we will continue to ensure that the club is financially secure and won’t risk the club’s future by overspending on players.
“Thankfully, our squad is strong and the mix of experienced heads and young talent means we’re in a good position.”
Parsons went on, “It’s critical that the players we have here are dedicated to representing Southampton and want to be here.
“Going forward, I think 2024 will bring about a lot of exciting opportunities for all of us. We’re determined to keep improving and aiming for promotions to the Women’s Super League and Premier League.
“I know how much your support means to our players, especially here at St. Mary’s, and I know that your continued assistance will be crucial in helping us get there.
“I appreciate all of your wonderful help in 2023. Here’s to many more amazing times together in 2024.”
