Southampton coach Andreas Georgson set to leave the club

SAINTS set piece coach Andreas Georgson is set to leave the club to take up a managerial role, the Daily Echo understands.

Despite his recent arrival at St Mary’s, the Swedish coach has made an impression with his work on the south coast and is currently anticipated to take over at Lillestrom.

The 41-year-old is anticipated to take up the managerial role at the Norwegian team, who placed sixth in the Eliteserien the previous season, as originally reported by VG Nett.

It is important to emphasise that nothing is finalised yet and that details still need to be agreed upon before the move is official.

In due course, the club will determine the next steps with regard to the role.

On Saturday, Samuel Edozie’s corner kick to put Saints ahead 1-0 was a prime example of Georgson’s labours in action.

He has held positions as technical director at Swedish powerhouse Malmo, Brentford, and Arsenal in the past.

In an October interview with the Daily Echo, Martin commended Georgson for his efforts in getting the team through a four-game losing streak.

“Having him in has been fantastic,” he remarked. He was crucial during this (difficult) time because he was at Arsenal under Mikel Arteta during their very difficult period.

“He has a wealth of expertise and some really brilliant set piece ideas.

“I understand that we have given up some set pieces, but overall, we have looked very strong and dangerous.”

In addition to the other things, he will keep working with the players to add that. The players have a lot of information to process.”
