Following a goalless first forty-five minutes, the Saints advanced to the tournament’s fifth round thanks to goals from Sekou Mara and Che Adams.
Jayden Maghoma is another player who seemed to have drawn a lot of attention with his performance in Tuesday’s victory over Watford.
Russell Martin issues glowing Jayden Meghoma praise
Meghoma is currently attempting to make his way into the Southampton first team after playing for the club at the Under 18 and Under 21 levels.
With Russell Martin’s team, the 17-year-old has already made four senior outings, all of which have been in the FA Cup or the EFL Cup.
In the current league season, he has also been used as a substitute multiple times.
Meghoma was given another opportunity to start for Southampton in the FA Cup on Tuesday night, and it seems he may have seized it—from both the Watford and Southampton points of view.
After the match, Martin said he had discussed the teenager’s play and his growth with Watford midfielder Jake Livermore.
Journalist Alfie House of the Daily Echo cited the Southampton leader when speaking about Meghoma, saying:
“Just now, Jake Livermore and I spoke about how gifted Jayden Meghoma is as a player. He is wise, collected, and mature. His defensive skills are really starting to take shape.
Meghoma an exciting prospect for Saints fans
Any excitement that may be growing around Meghoma at Southampton is definitely understandable.
It is a testament to his tremendous potential that at just 17 years old, he is already having an impact on both his manager and a rival player.
It is encouraging for his growth that he is already gaining this kind of experience playing senior teams in championship settings, especially considering how happy Martin appears to be with that specific area of his game.
It is difficult to deny that he has the ability to develop into a significant asset for the Saints in the years to come if he can maintain this trajectory.
Those connected to Southampton will undoubtedly be pleased to see another young player, Meghoma, make such progress after several have already contributed significantly to the team this season.
