A nightmare for St Helens as they are hit with massive double injury blow

St Helens head coach Paul Wellens has issued an injury update for his side ahead of their crucial top-of-the-table clash against Catalans Dragons, and it comes with bad news for Saints fans.

They’ve scored 100 points in the past two games, most recently in a 40-10 victory over Rohan Smith’s Leeds Rhinos, and would have been hoping to use this momentum in their game against a plucky Catalans side that you can rarely bet against.

However, in news their fans won’t be happy to hear, they’re going into this game down two key men, with them both set to be out for an extended period of time.

Before their pivotal matchup at the top of the table against Catalans Dragons, head coach Paul Wellens of St Helens has provided an injury report for his team, and it’s not good news for Saints supporters.

They would have been hoping to exploit this momentum in their game against a resilient Catalans team that you rarely bet against. They have scored 100 points in their last two games, most recently in a 40-10 victory over Rohan Smith’s Leeds Rhinos.

They will be without two important players for a considerable amount of time going into this game, which will not be good news for their supporters

A nightmare for St Helens

Batchelor’s isn’t the only significant gap in the teamsheet for their upcoming fixtures, because they’re also going to be without Jonny Lomax in the halves.

On his injury, Wellens said: “Jonny Lomax has got a fracture to his hand.

“We’re not thinking that’s going to require surgery. However, he will be missing for around four weeks.

“It’s obviously not good to lose not just two players, but two very good players, so it’s obviously going be a challenge for us, but one that I will ask the team to rise to.”

It looks like Lomax will be out for around a month, but with his absence, alongside Batchelor’s for double that time, Paul Wellens has some thinking to do if his side are going to stay on track.

Their next game comes against Catalans Dragons in a repeat of last year’s Super League playoff semi-final. That game comes on Friday night at The Totally Wicked Stadium and can be viewed live on Sky Sports. Details of that game and all other rugby league games on TV can be found here.
