Emergency services descend on scene after three-car crash in St Helens

Fire, police and rescue crews and ambulance were seen in attendance on North Road, near the junction with Crab Street.

One person has been assessed by paramedics following the crash.

A police spokesman said they were called to a “damage only” collision, reported at 2.40pm on North Road.

The crash involved three vehicles, a Vauxhall Combo van, Ford Focus and Honda CR-V, he added.

There is a closure on North Road at junctions with Crab Street and Cooper Street while the vehicles are recovered.

A Merseyside Fire & Rescue Service spokeswoman added: “MFRS was in attendance at an incident on North Road, St Helens earlier this afternoon.

“Crews were alerted at 2.35pm and on scene within minutes. Two fire engines attended.

“This was a three-car road traffic collision, with all three vehicles on four wheels and no persons trapped.

“One driver of one vehicle was assessed by North West Ambulance Service (NWAS) and two vehicles were isolated due to significant damage to the engine compartments.

A representative for North West Ambulance stated that no patients were transported to a hospital. As of 3 p.m., live traffic tracker INRIX reported: “North Road both ways closed, heavy traffic due to accident from the Church to Cooper Street.” “MFRS assisted Merseyside Police in making the scene safe and left the scene at 3.07pm.”
