On Thursday afternoon, three automobiles collided severely on Tasmania’s east coast, resulting in the death of a woman.
Nearly two kilometres from the St Helens settlement, there was a collision on the Tasman Highway that was reported to emergency services around 3:30 p.m.
The 62-year-old Pyengana resident was taken to St. Helens District Hospital and, according to police, died there while getting treatment.
In the same car, a 61-year-old Pyengana resident was also treated at St Helens District Hospital before being moved to Launceston General Hospital for more care.
According to police, his wounds are not thought to be life-threatening.
The drivers of the other two vehicles involved were also taken to St Helens District Hospital.
A 28-year-old St Helens man sustained minor injuries, while a 43-year-old Sandy Bay man was unharmed.
“Our thoughts are with the woman’s family and loved ones at this difficult time,” a Tasmania Police spokesperson said.

The Tasman Highway remains closed in both directions and police are asking motorists to avoid the area while the scene is cleared.
