A St Helens man has been jailed for life for the murder of 33-year-old Lee Andrew today (Monday 7 February).
Thomas Brown, 42, of North Road, St Helens, was found guilty of murder at Liverpool Crown Court.
Brown was jailed for life and will serve a minimum of 18 years in prison before being considered eligible for parole.
At around 10.50pm on Monday 2 August, Brown stabbed Mr Andrew in the neck inside a property on North Road. He later died in hospital.
Police arrested Brown a short time later. He was quickly charged and remanded into custody.
After just two hours of deliberation, Brown was unanimously found guilty of murder by a jury, following a six-day trial.
Temporary Detective Superintendent, Simon Vaughan, who led the murder investigation said: “This was a horrendous attack which left Lee Andrew fatally wounded.
“Brown claimed that he was acting in self-defence, but the jury saw through his lies, and he was convicted of murder. I hope that Brown will now reflect on the consequences of his actions while serving his significant jail time.
“Although no sentence can bring Lee Andrew back, I hope that the result today can bring family some sense of closure after they were put through the ordeal of a trial.
“Today’s sentence shows that we at Merseyside Police simply will not tolerate such violence on in our communities. We will continue to do all we can to find those responsible for using weapons to cause fear and harm and will bring them to justice.”
