Men ‘stabbed after argument near fishing pond in St Helens

One man was taken to hospital with injuries to his arms and legs and the other to his back

Two men were assaulted with what police believe to have been scissors after an argument near a fishing pond. Merseyside Police were called to Nutgrove Hall Drive in Thatto Heath, St Helens at around 1.30pm on August 4 2024.

It followed a report two men in their 20s had been assaulted at a fishing pond in the area. The men were taken to hospital for treatment to injuries believed to have been inflicted with scissors. One sustained injuries to his arms and legs, and the second injuries to his back.

According to a military spokesperson, everything are stable. Images from the location showed an ambulance and a huge number of police cars, with police tape extending over the fishponds and forested area’s entrance.

Detective Inspector Jimmy Rotheram said officers believe the attack was targeted following an earlier argument. In statement, he said: “Extensive enquiries have been ongoing since yesterday, including forensic, CCTV and house-to-house.

“At this point, we think that this was a deliberate attack in retaliation for a previous fight that happened close to the Cleg fishing pond.” We would be interested in speaking with anyone who witnessed the incident, saw the two men leave the area, or has any information.

“Your information, images or footage could be vital in establishing what happened and who was involved. Thankfully both victims are recovering but the consequences could have been devastating, and we are determined to find those responsible and put them before the courts.” Contact police @MerPolCC, 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111 with reference 24000617760.
