PLANS for the change of use of space at an industrial site including the installation of 27 storage containers have been given the green light.
The construction of storage containers, a new fence, the relocation of the current entry gates, and related landscaping work at Lea Green Business Park were among the proposals that sought permission from council planners for a flexible use that included open storage and/or a parking lot.
The Storage Team, the applicants, submitted plans for the Eurolink, Sutton Manor site.
In the proposals, a cover letter written by Craig Foster Architects on behalf of the applicant stated: “The Storage Team has received consent for open B8 storage with shipping containers within the Units 17 and 18 external yard area.”
The goal of this plan is to expand the storage container facility into nearby property that will come under the applicant’s jurisdiction.
“The program is meant to handle the growing need for storage, especially for larger objects, on the site. There are 27 more containers in all that are suggested.”
Planning officer Kim Vo stated in a report that she recommended approval, stating that “commercial and industrial units are located immediately surrounding the application site.”
“The proposed shipping containers would be sited within an existing hard surfaced area that is currently used for informal parking of cars and caravans and would be well screened by the warehouse units within the application site and the proposed boundary fence.
“Moreover, given the nature of the proposed containers which are to be used for storage, any impacts in terms of increased noise and disturbance are considered to be minimal.”
