Police close major road after van crash in St Helens

A man is believed to have suffered a “medical episode” after a van crashed on a major road. Emergency services were called to the junction of the St Helens Linkway, now named the James Roby Way, at around 10.05pm on Saturday, August 3.

It followed a report a van had mounted the grass verge at the junction of the St Helens Linkway and Sherdley Road. Police said at this stage they believe the driver of the van, a man, suffered a medical episode.

Photos of the scene showed the dual carriageway closed in both directions between Elton Head Road to Scorecross (Sherdley roundabout). Several police cars and an ambulance were at the scene. According to traffic management system Inrix, there is currently “heavy traffic” in the area due to the road closures.
