Saints v Wigan Warriors double header to be broadcast on TV

SKY Sports will cover an historic night for Saints teams in Wigan on Friday, July 12, as for the first time in the town there will be a double header of Men’s and Women’s derbies.

That is one of many highlights of the broadcast schedule that has been agreed for Rounds 16-19 of the Betfred Super League (July 5-27), as the battle for the Play-Offs gathers pace in the Men’s and Women’s competitions.

Wigan Warriors Women played their first match at The Brick Community Stadium against Barrow Raiders last month, and this will be the first time they have hosted their local rivals at the ground.

The Warriors showed off their increasing competitiveness last weekend in the Betfred Challenge Cup Semi Finals, following the hiring of Denis Betts as coach in the off-season. However, the Saints solidified their position as the team to beat by defeating York Valkyrie to make their fourth straight Cup Final appearance.

Following their titanic battle against Saints at the Totally Wicked Stadium on Good Friday, Matt Peet’s Warriors will get their first opportunity to exact revenge in the Betfred Super League match. The rivals will square off for a third time this season at Magic Weekend in Leeds in August.

Every Betfred Super League round will still be covered in full by Sky Sports, with two games chosen for exclusive broadcast.

The Huddersfield Giants will go to Warrington Wolves on Friday, July 5, as the exclusive choices in Round 16, needing to make amends for their crushing loss in the Betfred Challenge Cup Semi Final on Sunday. Hull, a Play-Off opponent, will face the following day.

Round 17 action resumes on Thursday night when the Wolves visit the Leeds Rhinos. The next weekend begins on Friday, July 19, with a big match between St Helens and Warrington, followed by a Saturday afternoon match between Hull KR and the Rhinos at Headingley.

There are two more derbies in Round 19, with Warrington visiting Wigan the next night in a rematch of the Challenge Cup Final and Huddersfield hosting Leeds on Thursday, July 25.
