St Helens close in on decision on future of Konrad Hurrell

Konrad Hurrell is among the biggest Super League names that is off contract at the end of the current season with the centre’s stay in Super League currently set to end with the conclusion of the 2025 season.

Hurrell is in his third season with St Helens after arriving from Leeds whom he joined ahead of the 2019 season. A fan favourite at Headingley, the move to The Totally Wicked Stadium has led to his cult status decline at Leeds but soar with Saints.

After been given an opportunity due to injury and suspension, Konrad Hurrell’s form is now what keeps him on the St Helens squad, and those performances are causing Paul Wellens to worry the Tongan’s contract position.

Konrad Hurrell is one of the most well-known Super League players whose contract expires at the end of the current campaign. The center’s Super League tenure is scheduled to finish at the end of the 2025 campaign.

Hurrell joined St Helens before the 2019 season and is currently in his third season there. He previously played for Leeds. A beloved move at Headingley, the

Paul Wellens told the media following the decisive 60–4 victory over the Castleford Tigers that, should Hurrell’s play hold up, he “absolutely” intends to keep him for the following season.

When asked if the Tongan’s future belonged at St Helens, the coach said, “If he keeps playing like that, then absolutely.” Keeping himself physically fit and at the top of his game has always been Konrad’s hardest problem.

He is just as effective as everyone else in the competition when he performs that. Konrad’s performance tonight is the result of the sacrifices he made during the preseason and the first few games of the season.

The St Helens Star has since claimed that Wellens has disclosed that contract negotiations with Hurrell and other players will go on, but in the end, the Red Vees coach has conceded that “it’s going to be very hard not to keep him around.”

According to what was stated, “We’ve been talking with a lot of players lately, and we’ll keep talking to Koni and all the other guys.

It will be difficult to keep Konrad around if he continues to put in a lot of work, maintain good physical health, and have the same kind of impact on games as he did on Friday.

A portion of the cause behind Hurrell’s increasing likelihood

Prior to the 2024 season, they recruited Waqa Blake from the NRL. Blake has been successful recently and is currently the club’s second-highest try scorer in the Super League this year, behind Jack Welsby. However, the majority of Blake’s accomplishments have come on the wing.

If Saints keep the Fijian, he might take on that role going forward because Tommy Makinson is rumored to be departing the team and St Helens is said to have lost out on Tom Davies, the team’s replacement.
