St Helens and Warrington Wolves will be without key men this evening when the two Grand Final hopefuls take on each other at the Totally Wicked Stadium.
Saints dug deep but fell short last time out as they lost 16-12 to local rivals Wigan Warriors and they’ll be determined to bounce back against Sam Burgess’ side.
Warrington, on the other hand, comfortably saw off Leeds Rhinos 30-18 last week and sit two points ahead of the Saints and four behind league leaders Wigan. Tonight’s contest could have big ramifications on the table, particularly as Saints bid to end their three-game losing streak.
St Helens injury news
Paul Wellens’ outfit are boosted by the return of Moses Mbye, who missed last week’s derby through suspension. However, the club are still missing a large portion of their first choice XIII for the time being.
Tommy Makinson is still a week or two away from a return as he continues to recover from a foot injury, while Konrad Hurrell misses the game with a neck injury. Saints have been decimated by injuries in the pack with Alex Walmsley (hamstring and knee), Sione Mata’utia (neck), Morgan Knowles (groin), Joe Batchelor (ankle), Matt Whitley and Jake Wingfield (both shoulder) still some way from being ready for action.
Most of the above names are expected to return in time for the Super League run-in but the Saints are having to do it tough at the minute and they’ll need to dig deep once more against the Wire.
