Super League Injuries with St Helens stars facing weeks out

After winning their first game since May, the Huddersfield Giants hosted the Leeds Rhinos on Thursday night to begin the round. Unfortunately for Leeds Rhinos interim coach Luke Robinson, Brad Arthur recorded his first victory in his role as coach.

Leeds won 34-6, but the match was tainted by controversy when Sam Lisone avoided a card for his leading elbow on Olly Russell, who remarkably had to explain himself on social media for getting back up rather than trying to milk a penalty.

The win also kept Leeds in the playoff race and they’re now just two points behind St Helens who were hammered 46-4 against Leigh Leopards to mark their fifth loss in a row, the first time that’s happened in the league since 1986.

They also fell victim to one of the most significant Super League injuries this season with Jack Welsby pulling up early on to add to their huge injury list.

There was plenty of change at the top of the table with Warrington Wolves shocking Wigan Warriors with a 40-4 win to move top, whilst Hull KR also pulled ahead of Matt Peet’s side with a 40-16 win over London Broncos.

Saturday then saw both Salford and Catalans punish Saints and leapfrog them as they beat Castleford 30-22 and Hull FC 24-16 respectively.

Across the six Super League games there’s been plenty of injuries incurred though, and to some of the competition’s best players

Welsby pulled up with a hamstring just five minutes into the game with Paul Wellens saying that it could be months as opposed to weeks, whilst O’Neill went down with no contact holding his knee.

That’s prompted fears that he could have injured his ACL which would be devastating for the 21-year-old given how he’s excelled this season after being handed the number nine shirt.

Saints also saw George Delaney suffer a leg injury whilst Moses Mbye and Mark Percival left the field with issues too. As for their opponents Leigh, Gaz O’Brien failed a HIA with Adrian Lam revealing that the full-back was on his way to hospital after the game.

Hull FC saw both Liam Sutcliffe and King Vuniyayawa pull up with Sutcliffe’s foot injury being labelled a bad one by Simon Grix to add to their Super League injuries. Micky McIlorum left the
