Tommy Makinson first words with Catalans after Dragons move confirmed disrespectful to St Helens RFC

Tommy Makinson insists the opportunity to be part of “something special” at Catalans Dragons was too good to turn down after his move to the club was confirmed. First revealed by Rugby League Live in January, the winger has joined the Dragons after spending the entirety of his career with St Helens.

In fourteen seasons at Saints, Makinson made 328 appearances scored 201 tries and 1,412 points. In that time he has won four Grand Finals, as well as a Challenge Cup and a World Club Challenge. Internationally he has played 14 times for England, scoring 20 tries. He won the Golden Boot in 2018.

Following the news of his signing, Makinson stated: “Over the moon to join the Dragons next year and really excited to join up with Steve, Andy, and the team. Really excited to bring my family over and embrace the culture at such an amazing club.” Makinson will now pursue his career in Perpignan, where he has inked a two-year contract with the French team.

“The history and supporters of the club is something that really excites me and I want to be part of something special and bring trophy’s and success to Catalans Dragons.”

Steve McNamara added: “Tommy’s pedigree as a player speaks for itself and we are delighted that he and his family have decided to join us. He is a leader, hugely competitive and knows how to win. He is a great signing for our club.”
