St Mirren talks with Celtic confirmed’

The South Korean midfielder has already become a firm favourite with the SMiSA faithful.

St. Mirren and Celtic have begun discussions over the potential to prolong Hyeokkyu Kwon’s romance in Paisley.

Since joining on loan last month, the South Korean midfielder has been a huge hit with the Buddies supporters.

In the Premiership match on Saturday against St Johnstone, it appeared as though he had scored his first goal for Saints, but following a VAR screen review, referee Grant Irvine disallowed it.

Although he understands that the Glasgow giants will have the final say, manager Stephen Robinson is pleased with Kwon’s performance and hopes he can stay at the SMiSA next season.

“He’s been terrific since he came into the club,” Robbo said yesterday. “He’s been a breath of fresh air, a really talented player. He gives us a lot of ownership in games and real composure on the ball.

“He’s someone we’d really like to keep. We’re speaking to Celtic about it, perhaps keeping him for another season with ourselves.

Although we would be happy to do so, we won’t make the decision because he is not one of our players.

“We wanted to give him game time because we felt he would have an impact. He hasn’t performed frequently. It’s acclimating him to Scottish football, which occasionally involves long throws and balls that he may not be accustomed to. The gameplay’s physical aspect.

“He’s brought that extra polish and poise. It is something we would really like to finish. Even if it might be a while off, I would love for that to happen.
