St Mirren have snapped up Shrewsbury Town midfielder Roland Idowu on a season-long loan.
The 22-year-old Dubliner became the club’s fourth signing of the summer after putting pen to paper at the SMiSA Stadium.
Idowu made 10 appearances for the Shrews after joining the Sky Bet League One side in January following an impressive spell with League of Ireland Premier Division outfit Waterford.
He signed a two-and-a-half year deal in Shropshire but will spend the 2024-25 campaign north of the border in the William Hill Premiership.
Idowu expressed his happiness at being here on the club’s website. “I’ve talked to assistant manager Diarmuid O’Carroll and manager Stephen Robinson about the club and have heard a lot about it.” I’m thrilled and looking forward to what the team is aiming for this season.
Richard Taylor is someone I know. He told me the club was nice because we had played together previously. I’ve seen the club’s accomplishments from the previous campaign and their continued efforts to improve. All I want to do is enter and lend a hand.
“I can’t wait to perform again in front of the audience. I like to move around the field with goals and assists. I’m a creative player that provides a lot physically. After talking with the manager, I feel more certain that I can accomplish that.
Boss Robinson believes that his new addition broadens the team’s perspective and has multiple applications.”We believe that Roland possesses exceptional talent,” he stated. He has the ability to play as an eight, anywhere in the midfield, and a little bit further forward to cover the forwards.
He’s someone I’ve been keeping an eye on and distinct from what we have.
Saints have already signed midfielder Oisin Smyth, defender Shaun Rooney, and goalkeeper Ellery Balcombe on loan from Brentford. The team returned to Ralston on Monday for preseason training. At the conclusion of the previous campaign, Exeter City’s loan agreement for forward James Scott was extended into a permanent one.
The Saints have also been mentioned as a potential long-term suitor for full-back Jaden Brown.
