Following a collision involving multiple vehicles on the A1, eight individuals were hospitalised.
Around 12.30 BST, the accident happened close to Stannington, Northumberland.
The Great North Air Ambulance, North East Ambulance Service (NEAS), and Northumbria Police all responded to the scene.
According to an NEAS representative, three individuals were transferred to Northumbria Specialist Emergency Care Hospital in Cramlington and five individuals were taken to Newcastle’s Royal Victoria Infirmary.
Since then, the road has stayed closed, and cars are being routed, according to National Highways.
