Stockport County have accepted a bid from AFC Wimbledon for defender Joe Lewis

London News Online reports that Stockport County has accepted an offer for defender Joe Lewis from AFC Wimbledon

In the summer transfer window, Stockport County loaned the center-back to another League Two team.

Since then, Lewis, 24, has made an impression with the Dons. Throughout the first half of this season, he has made 28 appearances across all competitions, contributing two assists and three goals.

Last week, there was talk that his parent club might recall him. But according to London News Online’s most recent report on his condition, Johnnie Jackson’s team is moving forward with plans to sign him permanently this month, which would be a significant win for them.

Lewis’s sale this winter will help Stockport make room in its ranks and provide money to bring in reinforcements. Recently, injuries have plagued Dave Challinor’s team, and in order to maintain their momentum for promotion to League One, they could use a few more recruits.

After winning the National League title in 2022, they signed the Welshman, who ended up playing 24 games for them in the previous season to help the Hatters advance to the play-off final. But in the Wembley final, they lost to Carlisle United on penalties.

After that, Lewis and teammate Conor Lemonheigh-Evans were permitted to temporarily join Wimbledon. Lewis has adapted to life in London well while his loan club looks to sign him to a long-term contract.

When he was younger, he was signed by Swansea City before moving on to Torquay United. The Hatters enticed him to the Football League after he attracted attention while playing for the Gulls in the minor leagues.
