In a match that has significant ramifications for both the race for the championship and the automatic promotion berths, first host third.
Both Crewe and Stockport enter this match fresh off a victory over the weekend, and they will be hoping to build on that momentum on Tuesday night. The Hatters put their match against Grimsby to bed in the first half, winning 3-0 within the first half before Abo Eisa gave their opponents a consolation goal in the second half. Crewe, on the other hand, may not have done as impressive a job of winning all three points, but they still managed to keep a clean sheet as they defeated a formidable Crawley team 1-0.
Right now, Stockport is clearly in the lead, leading second-place Mansfield Town by four points at the top of the table and the Railwaymen by seven points in third. However, in what appears to be a six-point shootout at the top of the league on Tuesday, Crewe will be attempting to reduce that deficit to four points. Although they have been playing well lately and may feel confident about their chances, they will also be aware of how difficult it will be to defeat their opponents.

Given the standings of the two teams on the rankings, this appears to be the best midweek matchup, and for good reason. It’s not really a game that either team will want to lose, and a draw may satisfy both. Stockport will be aware that a point will maintain a significant lead over Crewe, while the opposition will likely be content with a point gained on the road.
The real winners of the tie will be Mansfield who currently sit second in the league and will see at least one of the two teams around them drop points. I actually think both will drop points but it should be a game filled with goals with the highest scoring and third highest scoring teams in the league taking one another on. They should cancel out and a draw looks the likeliest option, a result that both teams will probably be happy with.” Stockport County 2-2 Crewe Alexandra

“In the past month, Stockport has proven that any concerns about their title challenge were unfounded. With three wins in their last four games and twelve goals scored during that period, it is evident that they are still playing at full strength. Their ability to defeat a variety of opponents throughout the year has been incredibly impressive, and their convincing wins over teams like Sutton United and Doncaster Rovers demonstrate just how clinical the team can be when necessary.
Crewe, who were undefeated at home at the time, was one of the teams they easily defeated during their remarkable victory streak earlier in the season. The home team at Mornflake Stadium has the fourth-best record in the league, despite the fact that their performance did, of course, wane as the season progressed. With five wins out of seven games in 2024, the team has demonstrated consistency in the division and enters the final 15 games of the season in the automatic promotion spots.
This is a true matchup between two teams who clearly want to go up, but given Stockport’s prior history of brushing off championship surrender in December, they should easily defeat Crewe, much like they did in the rematch.
