Dispersal order issued and four youths arrested in Stockport

A big group of young people congregated at Stockport Bus Interchange yesterday evening, and four of them were taken into custody on suspicion of violating public order. A Section 35 dispersal order has been issued by Greater Manchester Police in certain Stockport areas in response to a significant gathering of young people at Stockport Bus Interchange. Four young people are being held on suspicion of violating public order. The dispersal order should be followed, and anyone with knowledge of previous instances is urged to get in touch with the local authorities.

GMP Stockport posted on Facebook that between 7:55 p.m. on May 4, 2024, and 7:55 p.m. on May 6, 2024, a dispersal order would be in effect within the area depicted on the map (St. Petersgate, Merseyway Shopping Centre, Redrock, bordering Great Egerton Street and George Street, Grand Central, Stockport Interchange Bus Station, and Wellington Street in Stockport).

“If a dispersal order is in effect, a Police Constable (PC) or Police Community Support Office (PCSO) has the authority to order someone who is at a public place in the neighbourhood to leave and not come back for the designated amount of time.

“A huge group of adolescents gathered at Stockport Bus Interchange yesterday evening, May 4, 2024, and four of them were arrested on suspicion. This incident led to the dispersal order.

“Police are using the dispersal order to assist them in addressing concerns with the actions of a select few people. It provides officers with temporarily increased authority to curb antisocial behaviour and keep the public peaceful.”
