After all, Bournemouth had been without a backup custodian for just seven days.
Due to injuries to Neto and Darren Randolph at his parent club, Mark Travers was summoned back from his loan stay at Stoke City, leaving Andrei Radu as their only senior keeper available. Although Cameron Plain had preserved six straight clean sheets for their under-21 team, the 22-year-old was left off of the Premier League roster.
Whereas in the Premier League, teams can bring back a goalie if they don’t have two, in the Championship, clubs can only make an emergency recall of a loan custodian if they don’t have a senior keeper fit. I wish you luck.

Travers therefore started the game on the bench for a 2-1 victory against Burnley on his second day back on the south coast. Day Four saw him cup-tied and watching a League Cup loss to Liverpool, while Plain, who was eligible to play in the cups, was benched. Randolph, who had been sick, returned to training on Day Seven. Yesterday saw Neto’s (ankle) return to training.
Travers was actually benched for the loss to Manchester City last weekend, but after participating in every Stoke game this season, it appears he will be reduced to watching from the sidelines for the foreseeable future. He’s not allowed to leave Bournemouth until the January transfer window, and Alex Neil said that the’maximum two teams in one season’ guideline of the European Football Association implies that he can only depart for Stoke.
Andoni Iraola, the manager of Bournemouth, declined to promise him any action, stating: “I’m not sure. Depending on Andrei’s performance and how we feel about their training, we’ll choose the one we believe has the best chance of winning. However, in certain circumstances, we are unsure of how they
Regarding Travers, he continued, “We spoke briefly about his circumstances (the Monday before to his recall), since they are equally challenging for him. He was playing against Leeds one day, and then you have to come here in two days, travel, and get settled. We all know him, so at least he knows everyone here. We had him in the preseason. He should have no trouble getting back into the swing of things.
Bournemouth isn’t at blame, so why wouldn’t they take action? Their status is too important for them to show kindness to another group. Travers has a contract there that expires in 2027.
In fact, Stoke didn’t have any fit keepers at all in 2020, thus they had to bring up Joe Bursik from a loan at Doncaster Rovers. When Thomas Sorensen was still available despite Asmir Begovic’s injury in late 2012, they were forced to bring up Jack Butland from a Barnsley loan, even though Sorensen later suffered an injury.
However, depending on a loan custodian from the top division is obviously risky for Stoke and their Championship opponents. It seems like a little danger, but it’s undoubtedly bothersome. The disparity in transfer policies across divisions seems unfair, particularly given how much the top division already weighs in terms of money.
“We’re always looking, but I think there are certain areas for us,” he stated. We were able to essentially bring players into the club in large numbers because of this renovation, which I believe began in the summer. After that, I believe we can really start to narrow down the areas we believe we can still improve in and the ones where we might need to bring in some competitors.
“Perhaps there are a few other items that we were unable to address within the previous window. Remember that you will never be able to tick every item in a single window. That is almost unfeasible. We came very, very close to it, which I believe says a lot about
