Steven Schumacher expects a busy first full month at Stoke City as the transfer window opens. The new head coach will be working with technical director Ricky Martin and a recruitment team led by Jared Dublin to make tweaks to the squad he inherited a fortnight ago.
Since the busy summer transfer window ended on September 1, Dublin has been in charge of January preparations. The custodian and left back are the two positions where Stoke are most vulnerable. Schumacher is emphasising how important it is for every new player to fit his playing philosophy and be prepared to contribute right away.
The Coates family will support the team to the greatest extent possible, and while the team still needs to be mindful of the EFL’s financial fair play regulations, selling is not a requirement in order to bring in new players. To ensure that the changing room doesn’t get overly crowded, there may still be exits, whether through sales or closing
When Stoke submitted their squad in September, they left three spots unfilled. However, Mark Travers later joined his parent club Bournemouth, and free agent Ciaran Clark and backup keeper Blondy Nna Noukeu were added to the roster.
There has been a plan in place for a few months, according to Schumacher. We’ll work to strengthen those areas of the squad as soon as we can because we know they need it.
It’s critical that we make an effort to carefully select candidates, bring in players who can perform in the manner you desire, and prepare them for the field. This month will be hectic, but hopefully we can get everything done correctly.
“We know we have a big squad and there aren’t many slots available if we want to bring in a certain number of players,” the speaker continued. If we believe we can attract players, we may need to think outside the box.
Both Liam McCarron and D’Margio Wright-Phillips, who are both 22 years old, have played only as overage players for the under-21 team and were not included in Stoke’s squad for this season. Emre Tezgel is expected to make a statement in the second half of the season, while Junior Tchamadeu, Bae Junho, Nathan Lowe, Tommy Simkin, and Sol Sidibe—all of whom are under 21 and do not need to be listed in the senior squad—have been involved with the first team.
Stoke is thought to have brought in players from abroad who wouldn’t have automatically been granted a visa by using their four designated wild card slots. After Travers and Chiquinho left the team too soon, there are still two loan spots available.
There are eight participants.
