A murder investigation has been launched after a man died following a stabbing in a Suffolk village. Police were called at just before 9pm last night (Sunday, August 18) to reports of a stabbing outside a property in Ipswich Avenue in Sutton, near Woodbridge.
Ambulance crews including an air ambulance were also in attendance. Despite the best efforts of police and medical personnel, the victim – a 37-year-old man – sadly died at the scene.
A 42-year-old man from Ipswich was detained at the scene and subsequently arrested on suspicion of murder. He has been taken to Martlesham Police Investigation Centre for questioning.
A section of Ipswich Avenue is currently closed from the junction with Easton Road as police enquiries take place. The estate is next to the former RAF Woodbridge airbase and contains both civilian and military accommodation.
A Suffolk Police spokesperson for Suffolk Police said: “Detectives are treating this as an isolated incident and the victim and suspect are understood to have been known to each other.
“Police would like to hear from any witnesses to the incident, including anyone driving along Ipswich Avenue either prior to, or just after 9pm, who has a dashcam fitted in their vehicle and may have footage that could be of assistance. Anyone with information that could assist the inquiry is asked to contact the Major Investigation Team on 101.”
