Sunderland turns to Wolves target in transfer

Should Sunderland decide to transfer the right-back this summer, Ki-Jana Hoever of Wolves may be the ideal Trai Hume substitute.
After a lacklustre campaign, Sunderland’s hierarchy is under pressure to turn things around, and the summer is looking to be crucial.

It is obvious that the Black Cats will be looking to add a striker to their roster, but it is also possible that other important players will leave the Stadium of Light during the summer.

We are aware of Sunderland’s methods. They look for young players that they can develop and then sell on for a profit; this summer, Jack Clarke is expected to fetch a high price, demonstrating the effectiveness of their approach.

But following a stellar season for the Wearside team, Trai Hume is another player drawing interest from around Europe; Aston Villa and Napoli are two of his admirers. He might not be the only one to leave.

Naturally, Hume will want to test himself at a higher level, and if his valuation is met—which would require a significant amount as well—Sunderland will want to keep him. However, as previously mentioned, they have a clear attitude.

In the event that the Northern Ireland international does leave, the recruitment team will thus already be lining up possible Hume successors, and Ki-Jana Hoever is someone who Sunderland can use.

The 22-year-old has a contract with Wolves right now, but he hasn’t been able to play much at Molineux, so he’s spent the last 18 months in the Championship with Stoke City.

Overall, the Potters have had a difficult time, but Hoever has performed admirably so far.

The former Liverpool player has eight goals for Stoke in that time, which is a respectable return considering that he has frequently played as a wing-back rather than a conventional full-back.
