Officers have said there will be a large police presence as football fans come together for a Championship derby.
On Sunday, Sunderland AFC will visit the Riverside stadium of nearby Middlesbrough, where an estimated 34,000 spectators are anticipated.
There would be a significant presence in and around the Middlesbrough town centre, according to Cleveland Police.
Anyone instigating chaos would be “dealt with robustly,” the force threatened.
Over 32,000 tickets had been sold, according to Middlesbrough FC, with 2,000 supporters coming from Sunderland.
It is recommended that supporters of each club use distinct entrance and exit ways from the stadium.
Cleveland Police said that it would be collaborating with Durham Constabulary, British Transport Police, and Mounted Section officers of Northumbria Police.
T/Supt Paul Richardson stated: “We are aware that most fans attend the game with the intention of responsibly enjoying the game.
“Anyone who intends to use the game as an excuse to cause disorder will be dealt with robustly and those people could find themselves with a banning order or facing a criminal prosecution.”
