Sunderland are looking to bounce back from consecutive defeats against Leicester City tonight.
The Black Cats are set to take on their biggest challenge yet as they travel to Leicester City, with the Foxes winning eleven of their opening twelve matches upon their return to the Championship.
After a few disappointing games, the visitors have fallen to sixth in the league standings; nevertheless, a surprise victory at King Power Stadium might allow them to jump back up to third.
Mason Burstow was benched by Tony Mowbray for the match against Stoke, meaning the team would be without a striker. However, following a lacklustre showing in the Midlands, Mowbray may be reconsidering his decision.
This is the starting lineup that Tony Mowbray is expected to start against Leicester.
Since Mowbray’s arrival last summer, Anthony Patterson has been a constant in goal, and I don’t see any reason why he won’t continue tonight.
The goalie has performed admirably thus far, but he still needs to improve his distribution.
Both Niall Huggins and Trai Hume, who have had a strong start to the season, will stay on either side of the defence.
Luke O’Nien is still starting in the centre, while Dan Ballard is still our favourite to stay in the team even though Mowbray said he will have a late fitness test.
If Ballard is allowed to play, it would be strange if Nectarios Triantis or Jenson Seelt were to start in place of the former Arsenal player. Ballard will be crucial to Sunderland’s chances of stopping Leicester tonight.
Fans will be relieved to see Dan Neil immediately return to the midfield after serving his suspension; the team was obviously missing him against the Potters.
