Sunderland Target J-League Superstar In Sensational January Swoop

There are often very raw uncut gems hidden away in distant leagues, and it seems Sunderland has their eyes on a precious jewel that could be just what they need going forward.

Japanese striker Mao Hosoya is lighting up the J-League, and as the Black Cats search for a consistent goal scorer, he could be the surprise choice to land on Wearside.

The 22-year-old, who presently plays for Kashiwa Reysol, has scored 17 goals in a little over 40 games, according to Sunderland Nation. He is now a member of the Japan national team thanks to his talent. He was called up to the senior team after playing for the under-21 team. After making 17 appearances and scoring 10 goals, he then scored the team’s first goal.

He’ll probably be included in the Asia Cup squad after his breakthrough. If he is to star in Qatar as expected, any deal would need to be completed fairly early because the tournament runs from the middle to the end of January.

Being a natural talent, Hosoya’s ability to score goals will go against Sunderland’s recent trend of signing more wingers than forwards.

Sunderland will surely still be looking for someone similar if they decide not to pursue the Japanese hotshot. They have been connected to AFC Wimbledon star Ali Al-Hamadi once more, but it’s likely that he will represent Iraq in Qatar as well.

Author’s Perspective

Sunderland will definitely want to bolster in an area that has been a worry because they are still very much in the running for the Championship playoffs. If they want to have a successful second half of the season, they need to improve their scoring, which currently ranks them second out of the top ten.
