A boy who allegedly waved a large machete in a Nottinghamshire town has been arrested. Nottinghamshire Police were called to Outram Street, Sutton-in-Ashfield, following reports of a disturbance around 11am on June 16.
Officers initially could not spot anyone at the scene, but later identified a suspect after watching CCTV footage. Officers then attended and searched a property in Sutton-in-Ashfield on Tuesday, June 17, where they found a machete.
A 14-year-old boy inside the home was then arrested. He has been charged with possessing a knife in a public place and using threatening behaviour to cause distress. The boy, who can’t be named for legal reasons, has been released on conditional bail ahead of an appearance at Nottingham Magistrates’ Court on June18.
“After some fantastic work by my officers, we’re really pleased to have been able to secure this charge,” stated Sergeant Jonny Groves of Nottinghamshire Police’s county priority tasking squad. The crew checked the area when we arrived and found no one, but after viewing the available footage, they were able to identify a suspect.
Anyone carrying a knife or other bladed weapon in public should be aware that doing so will never be accepted by the police and will result in consequences. We will keep working toward eliminating machetes and other weapons from our streets because it is the right thing to do as a force.
