A new pub offering something ‘special to Sutton Coldfield’ will open in a former eatery that closed after little over a year. Bar 28 is going into the former Mutiny Loft restaurant on Birmingham Road in the town centre.
The initiative is owned by two Sutton businessmen who promised a diverse location with drinks, cuisine from brunch to dinner, live music, and other amenities. It will be a’modern cocktail bar’ on two floors, with Sutton’s first interactive dart game, which has been a ‘bullseye’ hit in the city centre.
The venue, which has previously been Bollywood Balti and Sangria Tapas, will feature giant screens upstairs broadcasting sports and will be ‘family and dog friendly’. After taking over the bar last month, the couple is racing against the clock to open it before the hectic holiday season begins.
One of the owners told BirminghamLive, “We’re incredibly excited! This is a new enterprise led by two locals who know the region well and believe it will add something fresh to Sutton.
“It will be a sophisticated cocktail two-floor bar with the added twist of a diverse interactive dart game layout that is entirely unique to Sutton. We’ll also have live sports on television.
“We will also serve brunch-style foods and other popular classics throughout the day and evening.” We will also offer live music, beverages, and gourmet events. We have a spacious outdoor beer garden that will be open during the summer.
One of the duo formerly ran a tearoom and café in Harborne, which fared well until coronavirus > Covid struck. And they are excited to open in their hometown.
It is the second new business to announce its arrival in the same row on Birmingham Road, following the Jubilee Garden café and restaurant, which will replace the previous ProMobile phone repair and accessories shop in the coming weeks.
While the former Otto Pizza, which adjoins Bar 28, confirmed its departure last month, the company closed its Lichfield and Sutton locations, leaving only its first establishment in the Jewellery Quarter. Further along in the Jacey Buildings, Southtown Tattoos is moving into the former Braw Hair salon, which ceased shop earlier in the year.
On the opposite side of Birmingham Road, Burger and Sauce is relocating into the former Electric Bike shop space, while Pizza by Goli has expanded.
