Properties close to flooding after months of rain as warning issued over groundwater levels’

The floods are not set to come at this moment in time but may affect the area soon including East Surrey and South London

Due to months of intense rain, groundwater levels in the area have risen, alerting residents of Croydon and Sutton to the possibility of floods. The Environment Agency has issued a warning on its website that the winter’s higher-than-average rainfall, which persisted into February and March, has caused groundwater levels to rise.

The Caterham Bourne is almost likely to overflow as a result of this rainfall, thus surrounding homes with deep basements and low-lying ground may experience flooding. Although rain is predicted for the near future, it is not anticipated to occur at this time. However, they have stated that they would provide an update on the situation on Wednesday, March 13.

Additionally, according to the Environment Agency, the following locations could experience flooding: Lewisham, Bromley, Bexley, Greenwich, Whyteleafe, Kenley, Purley, South Croydon, Beddington, Carshalton, Coulsdon, and Caterham Bourne
Additionally, they have issued a warning, instructing those living along riverbanks to stay away from the portions of the river that pass through their property.
