Sutton care workers completes a five-mile fundraising walk

The route for the challenge took place between two Cygnet Health Care services; from Cygnet Grange in Sutton-in-Ashfield to Cygnet Storthfield House in South Normanton, a distance of 5.2 miles.

The team are raising money for Headway, a UK-wide charity that works to improve life after brain injury by providing vital support and information services.

The Cygnet Health Care team donned costumes including a tin of beans, a flamingo and superman, making the feat quite the challenge. They hope to raise more than £500.

Team Leader Kelly LeGrice clarified, saying, “We are really fond of Headway since we provide neuropsychiatric units as part of our services. The charity is incredible and helps a great deal of individuals with brain injuries, including our patients.

“Headway provides support not only to injured people but also to their families. Traumatic brain injuries alter not just the victim’s life but also the lives of everyone around them.Headway recently rated Cygnet Grange and Cygnet Lodge, our neuropsychiatric care and treatment programs in Nottinghamshire, “outstanding” for men with neurodegenerative illnesses and acquired brain injuries.

“We’ve done several events over the years and also held fundraising days,” Kelly continued. Because it increases awareness, we enjoy participating in the charity walks.

“We get more attention and have a great walk because of our unique dress. Even a member of the public who had a family member who had recently had a brain damage approached us. They had no idea about Headway, but now that they have, perhaps with our challenge, they will be able to get the help they require.

“Everyone’s outfits that day made for a lot of chuckles. Making people laugh and grin during the walk was undoubtedly a highlight. The only difficult part was trying to navigate the A38 in gusty weather while wearing inflated costumes!About 350,000 people are admitted to hospitals each year with acquired brain injuries, according to Headway. One every ninety seconds, that is.
