The fire brigade in Nottinghamshire has reported that a 72-year-old man has perished in a fire at an apartment.
Shortly after 19:00 GMT on Monday, a lifeline system at the property in Aspley Road, Sutton in Ashfield, notified firefighters.
When they arrived at the flat, they discovered the man in a smoke-filled room unconscious.
The cause of the fire has not yet been determined, however the fire service said that he was pronounced dead at the spot.
Nottinghamshire Police and the fire department have launched a joint inquiry.
