Owners of petrol and diesel vehicles may face high fines as a result of driving rule amendments that go into effect in June. Beginning on June 1st, drivers in three of the four largest Scottish cities will be subject to new fees as part of the Low Emission Zones, which will charge drivers for using petrol and diesel vehicles.

Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) cameras are connected to regional and national vehicle licencing databases to monitor all cars operating in an LEZ. The LEZ will be open twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week. They’ll be able to identify cars that don’t meet the required emissions levels.

It has been verified that stationary vehicles are not subject to LEZ limitations. Penalty Charge Notices will be used to enforce the LEZ (PCN). A PCN is issued to the registered keeper of a vehicle that is found to be operating outside of a designated learning zone (LEZ). This policy will go into effect on June 1, 2024.
