Thug who stabbed, strangled and attempted to kill his then partner

A domestic abuser who inflicted “horrific violence” on his then-partner before attempting to kill her has been jailed.

The public eventually intervened to save Arif Ahmet Alidov, 51, of Edmonton, who had beaten, strangled, and stabbed his companion of eleven years.

Following a trial at Wood Green Crown Court, he was found guilty of attempted murder, threats to kill, assault with intent to rob, possession of an offensive weapon, ABH, and strangling on April 12 and was sentenced to 26 years.

At the same court on January 29, he was already found guilty.

According to Scotland Yard, on July, Alidov showed up at the woman’s workplace while she was working. He allegedly approached her from behind and grabbed her by her hair in an effort to remove her from the building.

Despite the intervention of colleagues, Alidov seized her once more and pushed her to the ground, causing her to pass out.

Later on that day, Alidov threatened to kill her over the phone, stating, “I will kill you if you try to call the police and tell them about this.”

In that same call, Alidov said that if he did, he would ensure that her body would not be discovered.

In an attempt to keep his partner from leaving him, Alidov went to Bulgaria the next day, bringing her passport with him.

On August 29, after he had returned to the UK, the victim received a message from one of Alidov’s relatives, claiming that they would meet up with her to give her the passport.

But Alidov was waiting for her when she got to the designated meeting spot.

He then started beating her, strangling her, and threatening to kill her once more.

The victim met Alidov again the next day, July 30, hoping to regain her passport.

She was assaulted by Alidov, who then knocked her down. After that, he repeatedly stabbed her, rendering her unconscious.

The safeguarding team’s detective constable, Bex Heitlinger, headed the investigation and stated, “This is a really serious case of domestic abuse.”

“On several occasions Alidov inflicted horrific violence on his then partner of eleven years.”She was stabbed during the last violent episode, leaving her in critical condition.

“I want to express my gratitude to the members of the public who helped the victim by providing first aid and who held Alidov until the police could arrive.

“Things may have turned out very differently in their absence.

“I want to take this as a chance to reach out to those who have experienced domestic abuse and let them know that you can get help.”
