Man charged with assaulting police officers in Swaffham

A man has been charged with assaulting five police officers in Thetford on Saturday morning (6 July 2024).

Police were called to reports of a disturbance at an address on Kimms Belt in the town at around 4.30am on Saturday.  A man in his 20s was arrested on suspicion of criminal damage, assault and assaulting an emergency worker. He was taken to Bury St Edmunds Police Investigation Centre for questioning where he was further arrested for racially aggravated public order offences.

Subsequently, Jack Simpson, 23, of no fixed address in the Swaffham area, has been charged with five counts of assaulting a police officer, one count of criminal damage and two counts of racially aggravated public order offences against police officers.

He was remanded in custody and is due at Ipswich Magistrates Court this morning (Monday 8 July 2024).
