A historic church hall in a Norfolk town hall is set to be converted into flats, after planning permission for the scheme was granted.
The Church Rooms on Camping Land in Swaffham will be renovated into two one-bedroom apartments as part of the project.
The building, which was originally used as a school, dates back to 1838 and is now utilised as a hall for St Peter & St Paul Parochial Church.
According to the planning application submitted to Breckland Council, the renovation will include “lightweight partitions and unobtrusive measures that are respectful of the existing character and have minimal impact on the structure.”
Swaffham Town Council, which has no say in the decision-making process but is allowed to submit feedback, stated they had no objections to the proposal.
However, they requested that the conversion “retain[s] as many original features as possible”.
Breckland Council granted permission for the project to proceed in a decision notice dated October 14.
The clearance was given concurrently with a number of projects aimed at revitalising the town, including the government’s High Streets Heritage Action Zone (HSHAZ) programme.
