Swindon ‘murder’ victim suffered injuries in altercation told’

An alleged murder victim died after suffering fatal injuries in an altercation, a Swindon court has been told.

In a hearing that lasted less than ten minutes on Tuesday, prosecutor Keith Ballinger said that Grant Walker reportedly put his aunt’s spouse in a headlock and twice smacked it against the wall.

After being transported to the hospital by ambulance earlier in the day, 32-year-old Walker appeared at Swindon Magistrates Court on Tuesday afternoon. He is charged with the weekend murder of 53-year-old Terry Ricketts and assaulting a police officer.

Wearing a grey top and grey tracksuit bottoms, he stood in the dock and spoke simply to confirm his personal information.

Mr. Ballinger went on to elaborate on the accusations made against Walker, saying that: “Over the weekend, the defendant, his aunt, and the victim—who had previously been married to [Walker’s] aunt—were all at the same address.

Between him and the victim, there was a fight. He placed him in a headlock and twice banged the victim’s head against the wall, causing fatal head injuries.

“After leaving the address, he was taken into custody. He started acting aggressively towards the officers and even spat at one.”

Walker, of Faringdon Road, has been placed under arrest hold until his upcoming court appearance on Wednesday at 10 a.m. at Bristol Crown Court.

He hasn’t made any entry requests.

As Grant made his way back to the cells, heartfelt friends and family in the public gallery yelled, “love you, Grant, stay strong.”

Prior to this, Wiltshire Police said that they were dispatched to Westbourne Court on Sunday at around one in the morning in response to complaints of a violent assault.
