Swindon Town aggress deal with free agent after Oxford United exit

Swindon Town could try and bring the winger back to the County Ground as they prepare for another year in League Two.

Bodin, 32, is a free agent following his recent exit from Oxford United and will be weighing up his options.

Speaking at the Swindon Town Football Supporter’s Club’s live stream, his dad Paul said, as per the Swindon Advertiser: “Well, he’s got a couple of options, and even as close to home as the mighty Robins, Swindon, there’s a little bit of dialogue with his agent, so there’s a bit of too-ing and fro-ing, the agents tend to do most of the work, Bill’s actually spoke to two managers but in the main it’s the agent who does a lot of the work before it gets pretty close.

“As I say Swindon are interested, they have made that aware to his agent, and he was due to meet Mark Kennedy last week, but for some reason, it didn’t quite come off, but yeah, there’s a genuine interest, as well as a number of first division and second division clubs.”

Swindon Town keen on winger

Reuniting former players is nothing new for Swindon Town; in recent years, stars like Charlie Austin and Harry McKirdy have done so.

The arrival of Bodin would be striking for the Robins as they get ready for life under new manager Mark Kennedy.

The one-cap former Wales international came up through his local team’s academy system and went on to make 16 appearances across all competitions, scoring three goals along the way.

In order to gain experience, he also had loan stints with Crewe Alexandra and Torquay United from the Wiltshire team.

After leaving Swindon Town in 2012, Bodin has played for Northampton Town, Preston North End, and Bristol Rovers.

Oxford United landed him in 2021 and he scored 25 goals in 102 matches for the U’s, nine of which came last term.

He helped them gain promotion to the Championship under Des Buckingham but wasn’t offered an extension.

Bodin needs to make a major choice about his future course of action.

It would be an emotional reunion with his hometown team if he moved back to Swindon Town. But, as his father Paul hinted earlier, he also has other teams targeting him.
