Swindon Town ex-Michael Beale colleague for managerial job

34-year-old coach Harry Watling is in contention for the Swindon Town and Barrow managerial positions as they hunt for a new leader.

Watling is said to be in line for a first role in English senior management is under consideration at both League Two clubs.

While only 34, Watling is a coach with some good pedigree and could be well-equipped for a first shot at being the lead man in the dugout.

He started out in academy football from a young age, working as a coach at Chelsea, Millwall and West Ham between January 2009 to January 2021. Watling then took up a job as manager of Hartford Athletic of Cincinnati.

In July 2022, the rumored target from Swindon Town and Barrow made his way back to England to become a member of Michael Beale’s coaching team at QPR.

He was going to go with Beale to Rangers, where they spent just under a year. However, he left that position in October of last year.

The aims for next season

Next year will be an interesting one for both Swindon Town

Though it’s unclear who will be in charge of the League Two teams, Watling would be a compelling choice for both.

At the County Ground, Barrow will be focused on building on Wild’s foundation and keeping their spot in the top half, while Swindon will be determined to climb back up the fourth tier table and compete for promotion. But even if they had battled in the relegation fight before he arrived, this next appointment is crucial.
