The news that the Golden State Warriors and Brazilian forward Gui Santos were very close to signing a multi-year contract was revealed on Monday by ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski. In line with Wojnarowski’s prediction, the signing would become official in the next few days. The Warriors made the official announcement of the signing on Tuesday morning with the following statement:
“Today, the news broke that forward Gui Santos had signed with the Golden State Warriors. The terms of the arrangement were kept confidential per team policy. Santos has since been allocated to the Santa Cruz Warriors, the team’s G League affiliate. Santos, 21, played in 43 games for Santa Cruz the previous year, averaging 25.1 minutes per game, 6.0 rebounds, 10.9 points, and 2.4 assists. In five games during the 2023 FIBA Basketball World Cup, Santos averaged 7.4 points, 3.0 rebounds, and 1.0 assists while representing Brazil internationally. Prior to joining Golden State as the 55th overall pick in the second round of the 2022 NBA Draught, Santos was a professional player in his home country of Brazil with Minas. The Warriors now have 17 players on their roster.
The Warriors are happy to have Santos in their lineup because he has demonstrated genuine promise at several basketball levels. Santos will get the chance to showcase his abilities on the G-League stage when he plays with the Santa Cruz Warriors.
