Blue Jays add third base coach Febles, add offensive coordinator to Mattingly’s role
OTTAWA – Don Mattingly, the bench coach, has more responsibilities now that Carlos Febles has joined the Toronto Blue Jays as third base coach.
The 47-year-old Febles, who coached for 17 seasons with the Boston Red Sox, has now joined the Blue Jays. After last season, Luis Rivera retired, and he took his place.
The Dominican Republic native worked as an infield coach for the Red Sox before managing over 900 games in the organization’s minor league ranks in 2017.
From 2018 until 2023, he was Boston’s third base coach. In 2018, he and the Red Sox won the World Series.
From 1998 to 2003, Febles spent six seasons in Major League Baseball as a second baseman for Kansas City.
The club also added offensive coordinator duties to Mattingly’s role.
Mattingly, a Yankees legend who went on to serve as manager of the Los Angeles Dodgers and the Miami Marlins, was named Toronto’s bench coach in November 2022.
