Torquay United’s issues finally comes to an end

Torquay defeated Havant and Waterlooville 5-0 to cap off their eventful National League South season.

The Gulls, who are under administration while they search for new owners, had won their largest game of the season at halftime, leading 4-0.

With 11 points docked, they finish the season 18th in the sixth tier, which is their lowest finish since entering the EFL in 1927.

To purchase the club, an undisclosed bidder has started exclusive negotiations.

“The players performed admirably in the first half,” interim manager Aaron Downes said on BBC Radio Devon.

“We wanted to give people something to go home happy about and to end the season on a high.”

Brad Ash opened the score in the twenty-third minute, and four minutes later, Austen Booth blasted in a 35-yard volley.

Eight minutes from the end, Arkell Jude-Boyd scored the fifth goal, and Will Jenkins-Davies, a loanee from Plymouth Argyle, ended his tenure at the club with two goals before the break.

“We could have had 12 comfortably – we could have had a lot more goals – but it was a superb performance and hopefully it sends everybody home happy,” Downes said.

“It’s put a little bit of gloss on the end of the season and hopefully we can start moving forward and we can start to look up and look forward to the future with a bit of positivity.”
