Man who died in Totton crash is named

George Hughes, of Meyrick Close, Bransgore, died in the early hours of August 20.

At 3.16am, police officers rushed to the scene of the collision – involving a HGV lorry and a silver Peugeot 107 – on the A326, at the junction with Monkton Lane in Totton.

Mr Hughes, 51, died at the scene.

The road was closed in both directions between Fletchwood Road and A35 Hunters Hill for around 12 hours.

Area coroner Rosamund Rhodes-Kemp opened the inquest at Winchester Coroners’ Court on Wednesday, August 20.

The cause of death was given as multiple injuries due to a road traffic collision.

This comes after police appealed for witnesses to the crash.

They confirmed the Peugeot 107 had been equipped with a cloned license plate and had been stolen from Fordingbridge Car Park, Round Hill at Fordingbridge on December 23 last year.
