Following an attack in Southampton early this morning (Friday), a man died. Two Totton males have been detained on suspicion of murder.

The victim, a Fareham resident in his 40s, reportedly experienced a cardiac arrest at the intersection of Oxford Street and Bernard Street, prompting the activation of the alarm around 12:40 a.m.

Police discovered he had been in an altercation upon their arrival.

He was declared dead at the site despite the paramedics’ best efforts to save his life.

Two people, one aged 35 and the other 60, are still being held after being detained during investigation.

DCI Adam Edwards, the investigating officer, stated that while officers are still in the Oxford Street area today, the inquiries are still in the early stages.

“We’re focused on giving the man’s family answers about what happened. They’ve been notified and are receiving support from the officers,” DCI Edwards stated.

“We are looking to speak with any witnesses today. Please get in touch and share this with us if you have any information, no matter how small, that could help our investigation.”

Supt. Phil Lamb, the city commander of Southampton, said: “Officers from the Oxford Street neighbourhood policing squads will be with me. Do not hesitate to contact them if you have any problems.

“We are thinking of the man’s family at this difficult time, and I know this will be upsetting news to the local community.”
